1. A few weeks ago I was feeling particularly unsatisfied and depressed. I can’t remember if I prayed about the situation, but that same week God led me to the Summit, and lifted me back up. (This itself was an answered prayer, as I have been praying daily to be closer to God and to know him better.) Then this week, it was as if the other prayer was answered. I had several occasions where I got to spend some quality time with my husband and truly reconnect. (It can be difficult, especially in the winter, to find things to do together beyond watching tv shows that don’t cost money.)
2. Monday. I made the potato soup out of the cookbook. I loved it, DH apparently doesn’t like any soup, only chowder. He thinks he might like it if I hadn’t pureed it so I will try that next time. One less step and several less dishes so this could work.
3. Tuesday. This was truly a blessing from God. I hadn’t prayed about it, it wasn’t even in the realm of possibility. I was given a second chance to go skiing. (You can read about my first chance here) My friend had so much fun learning to ski (and going faster than DH by the end of the day) that she couldn’t wait to go again, so when opportunity arose (4 days later) she invited people to come skiing with her for free.
It’s not very often we get a second chance in life, so I made up my mind that tonight was for skiing, not for pictures. So DH and I went skiing, this time for free, yes you read that right, FREE. In honor of hosting the Canada Winter Games, both ski hills offered fri skiing that day, with a printable coupon. We decided we’d go for the night skiing at the closer ski hill, rather than all day at the farther one, which was good because it meant I could go too (my Tuesdays are busy but the evening was free.)
It was already almost dark when we got there, but unlike Wentworth, Martock didn’t have any orange lights, just the bright white ones, so the trails were well lit for me. It was also warmer than Friday, (which was nice because by the end of the day it had gotten pretty chilly even though we were dressed warmly.) This time I was warm enough in 2 sweaters (no coat) and my fingers weren’t going numb.

We all went to the top and I had some difficulty getting back down, the same as I did on Friday evening. After that DH said he would be happy to stay with me for the rest of the night, skiing at my pace and where I felt comfortable. So we ended up going halfway up the mountain and down the easy hill (not the bunny hill!) It was just my speed, I didn’t feel uneasy or that I couldn’t control my skiis and I was still able to go at a fast enough pace for it to be fun. To go up halfway we had to take the T-bar, which is easy once you understand the most important principle, don’t sit on it! For the rest of the evening DH and I just repeated the loop, we’d ride up on the t-bar halfway and ski down the easy hill. We really got to spend some quality time together, we’d talk all the way up, then blaze our own separate trails down the hill and meet back up at the bottom to do it all again. Sometimes we’d hold hands as we crossed the big hill to get to the easy one.
4. Wednesday, I made peanut butter and jelly muffins in the afternoon. They got much bigger than planned so the jelly didn’t really stay on top as a result and I was glad I had put tinfoil on the tray holding the little muffin trays, but they did taste good. Another success out of the veggie puree cookbook.
That night my mother and I had a scrapbooking class. It was the journaling one and the one I was least interested in, but it turned out to be better than I expected. I’m very sentimental, so of course journaling should appeal to me.
5. Here is the journaling I wrote about skiing the second time:
We went night skiing at Martock for free. This was a second chance for me because on the Munro Day ski trip I spent most of my time taking pictures and hardly skiied at all. My friends went off their own way but DH stayed with me, even though my pace was not his speed. The mountain air was so crisp and it was so quiet as we rode up the T-bar through the dark woods, the only sound was our voices as we talked the whole way up. It was a little chilly, I remember that burning sensation in my finger tips and toes, and feeling my feet tucked snugly in my ski boots. I remember holding hands as we crossed over to the top of the hill and laughing as we skiied down.

6. Thursday night a friend called me and asked if I wanted to go to a comedy show with her. Her dad won the tickets. Talk about a lucky week (or rather a blessed one but it doesn’t sound as good.) It was a live taping for a radio program. We had an hour to get supper, drop off baby and get there when DH got home so I could ask him. DH bought a ticket and came too when my brother said they could babysit afterall. My favorite act was Picnic Face which is a comedy troop unlike the rest.
7. There is another Summit tonight ![]()
Unfortunately, it’s at Canadian Martyrs instead of my church ![]()
